Re: aerocraft 12 foot 1946?
I collect Aerocraft information at
AeroCraft Boats
I suspect Aerocraft assigned serial numbers sequentially over the years. And other than a very few outliers (that I doubt were made in the very earliest years) all the serials I've seen are above 1000. The lowest I've seen is 1154.
From information I've seen, production started in June 1946, and according to one source reached 50 boats/week by the fall of 1946.
So.... If serial numbers started at 1000, serial 1666 could have been built in 1946, or early 1947.
But, another source says production didn't reach 50 boats/week until March of 1947. And even if serial numbers started at one, 1666 would have been built in 1947, so 1947 is a more conservative guess.
In his book "Tail Fins and Two-Tones", Peter Hunn says the model "AD" (the 12ft model with a longer deck, and steering wheel) was raced in the APBA "BU" (stock utility) class, likely with a Mercury KE-7 Lightning "ten horsepower"
