Well, I found my leak. The fitting going through the transom into the aerator pump was broken. It's just a threaded piece of PVC pipe and it was completely split in half. It's a wonder we didn't sink. Anyway, I need to replace this and I was wondering if I can get the pipe or do I need a whole new pump. How do you get to it? I have a Quantum 16ft Fish & Ski and it has a flat deck in back with two compartment and a live well. Does the whole back deck come off? Also, can I just plug the hole for now?

Thanks, Chris

Re: Aerator Pump

You'll probably have to replace the whole assembly. Some are designed so you can replace the just pump but usally you can't buy the pipe assembly seperately. If you have access to the pump just loosen the nut on the outside, pull the unit out and replace with a new one. In the interm you should be able use a plug in the existing pipe. I'm not sure where you are at but in my neck of the woods that happens from water being left in the pump in freezing temps. If this was the case the pump itself may be shot too.

How can I get to the pump? I can't reach it from any of the access compartment, although I can see it. Does the deck come off these boats?

Re: Aerator Pump

Sorry I am not familiar with that boat. You might want to contact the manufacturer and see what they say.One of my pet peeves is dumb a$$ engineers that design stuff with mechanical devices and wiring in inaccessible places. I have rarely run into this type of problem because my boats have all been small aluminum craft. An option may be to cut a hole in one of the storage compartments or the deck then install a deck hatch (one of the round ones with a screw on or friction fit cover)for future access. You just have to make sure you take it slow and don't cut something you shouldn't.
