If your running below planing speed you might also consider raising the motor
You might gain 4 or 5". Of course you'll be stuck at 6 or 8 mph.
With that and a guard you'll be invinceable.

thanx, Steel...we run the 9.9 with it tilted 30 deg. or so...I guess I'm looking for a "super fix' so we could run it released and it would simply "bounce" over underwater obstructions while maintaining near wot speeds...mind you this is against the current so wot speeds are no faster than a slow jog...I guess it's a pipe dream to think either one of those could provide that..

Years ago when I first started on here a guy put a potatoe fork on his motor
as a guard and wondered why it vented all the time.
You still may be able to gain a couple of inches by raising the motor also maybe move some weight forward, maybe even the driver with an extension handle, so it doesn't squat as much.If you can find a 4 blade prop it would allow more height without venting as much and it would plane quicker.

A jet sure is the way to go but will probably have to be around 25hp at the crank.
to push like a 9.9 under your conditions. We'll be interested to see how prop savers work if you try them.
