Hello to everyone. This is my first post here at iboats as I just very recently purchased my first boat, a 2007 Sea Ray 185. Unfortunately, my first post is a request for help as well. Yesterday, while driving to the boat ramp to spend a day out on the water with my family, one of the rear passenger cushions came off while I was driving and was subsequently destroyed by a very large (as luck would have it) truck. I do not believe it is repairable and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction as to where I could get a new one and about how much it would cost. Should I try Sea Ray direct and order a replacement ($$$) or a local boating shop perhaps? I appreciate any help. Thank you.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck TJ. If it were mine, I would try Sea Ray so that would be the closest color match. If the vinyl material is good enough to use, you could have an upholester make a new "frame" for the cushion.

I would also do something different so I wouldn't have to worry about losing another cushion.

If there is any way you can "save" the template of the original you could ez make another one and take it to uphols... shop. In the other way your boat is new and Boat companies always hold parts for over 5 years from the date of boat manufactured, Hope this helps and WELCOME TO IBOATS~:)

That is a newer boat, I would go to Sea Ray and order a new one from them. Parts like this typically have a strap or two that hold them in place, if they don't I would add a few to each of the rear cushions so this does not happen again. I would guess you will pay a shop just as much to match the quality of the pad you are replacing.

Thank you all for your replies. I just got off the phone with Sea Ray and believe it or not, this cushion costs $439.00. I think my wife will shoot me prior to me having the chance to replace it :). This whole boating thing is expensive, no? ;)

Take it to a local shop or upholsterer and see what they can do. I just had a full width cushion replaced, plus my engine hatch recovered, plus a bunch of repairs done on my tow cover all for $500 . . .

And you're just getting started:eek: You can probably find someone local to match it close enough at a fraction of the cost. It's like buying the floor mats from pep boys instead of the car dealer...

BTW, my wife and I only fight about one thing--"that stupid f*&(#&g boat". Welcome to the wonderful world of boating (and iboats).

First thing first...Welcome to iboats forum, where the answers are hot and the beer is cold.
Second...A boat is a hole in the water you keep throwing money into.
Finally...I had to replace a couple of cushions on my '08 due to a mishap. Mfg. was over a grand, local upholsterer repaired one and replaced the other. $250 for both, and a real close match with better material to boot.

Re: Advice on replacing a cushion

Welcome to Iboats.

Exact same thing happened to me about a year and a half ago.

After waiting this whole time and using a patio cushion on that part of the boat (of course the area where everyone wants to sit) I made a template and had a local guy make me the one cushion. Cost was $150.

I'm happy as hell. Did a great job.

I've towed over 200 miles since my new cushion two months ago and just tuck them in front of the capt. chair on the floor covered by the cockpit cover, and this past weekend (driving much farther) just stored all of them in the third row of my SUV because I am always paranoid now. Depends on the room you have, just find somewhere, its just for the drive. I am a firm believer that once that wind gets a hold of something, good bye baby!!

Maybe it's just that I'm a Florida guy with all the storms and stuff.

I took your advice and took the cushion to an upholstery shop in town...$150.00 out the door. I just hope it matches alright. Sea ray uses a very unique yellow and even their white seems different than anything I was able to find. Should be close enough though.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!

I can see how that is possible...I think boater's should all get together and get Time Shares so when our wives kick us out we have somewhere to go...just a matter of time for me at this point. :)

Thanks again.

Thanks Jeep Man! I appreciate you taking time to help me out. I'm off to find a second job to help pay for this new addiction now. :)

You patio cushion idea is a classic...way too funny. Never even thought of that. Who would think boat manufacturers would attach a lightweight cushion by a small strip of velcro? Like you, I am paranoid now and will likely put them in the back of my SUV from now on (or at least have my kids sit on them as I tow the boat down the highway...j/k). Thanks for your help.
