Have been looking at buying used. Currently have a pontoon from 30 years ago,,,,,,, but its time for a new one.

Prices seem to be all over the map with dealers being way high on used boats.

Anyone have any experience with Premier's?

Looking at a 2006 Premier 22 ft Pontoon 221 Gemini
50 hp 4 Stroke Suzuki Outboard.

It seems likes its in good condition, but am a bit leery as its from a dealer. I know boats vary by region, but can anyone give me a blue book idea, or other published barometer on price?

Midwest is the location.

Wont be towing anyone......Just leisurely rides and dropping a line in the water to fish.

Re: Advice on buying used

Here are my thoughts:

1 - BB is nearly worthless! Only the banks use those for loan values. But boat prices are so highly variable based on region and condition, I think a BB is just a baramter.

2 - I just sold a 2000 Premiere with a 40 hp 4 stroke. It went for 10k with no trailer and I should have gotten at least 1,000 more for it. I only paid 7k for it three years ago and the first person to look, showed-up with cash. It was a Legacy 225.

3 - Pontoon prices on used ons are really strong. A good, solid used pontoon is nearly worth it's weight in gold. They go fast.

4 - If you want to check the KBB or NADA, just go to their website.

5 - That boats feels like a 14 to 16k boat to me.

Why would you be leary from a dealer over a private party?

How did you score the 2000 Premier for 7k, let alone 3 yrs ago and then sell it for 10k?

In terms of being leery. ....After I walked, they came down 2k in price. I should have gone lower I felt like.

This boat is down in Southern WI

i live in Northern, Western WI near st. paul, MN

I bought the pontoon in June of 2010. At that time, no one was buying boats. This toon had been sitting in storage for two years and had not been run. The owner was asking 9500 for it, but he owed over a years worth of storage fees to the marina (about $800). It was also a mess....dirty and lots of mildew.

I knew it could be cleaned. In fact, i spent 4 hours cleaning it with the kids and had it looking as good as new and offered the guy $6500 for it. He agreed to $7,000 after the marina agreed to forgo the money he owed. In return, I agreed to store the pontoon with them for the season.

Since then, the market has changed a ton! I probably could have gotten as much as 11,500 for it. I was offered 8,000 on a trade and paid 7,000 so getting an offer for 10,000 and keeping all my gear seemed good to me.

it has been replaced with a brand-new pontoon. A bit larger and with a much larger motor. Paid 10k under MSRP for it since it was a bank repo from a dealer. It was still wrapped in plastic! In reality, I paid about 5 to 6k less then what other dealers were asking for the same boat with the same set-up.

hard to make money on a boat, but I guess it can be done.
