Trying to get 2 skiers up. One advanced, one novice. Any advice? Should ropes be same length? Skiers seem to come together behind wake. Thanks.

Re: Advice for pulling 2 adults

We have pulled two adults behind my boat. When we did it I was on a longer rope trying to coach the person on the shorter rope. I don't know what you are wanting to do, but if someone is a ok skier they should be able to contol their path well enough to stay out of eachothers way. I was on a wakboard and just stayed out to the left of the wake and gave the newbie the center. It works really well for me. Once I get someone where they can get out of the water I like to do this so I can help them with the next step.

Hope this helps.

Re: Advice for pulling 2 adults

My sister-in-law and I tandem skiied successfully last summer. Both intermediate level. We had two different length ropes, one to the left and right sides.

Getting us both up successfully was the hardest part, luckily the boat had JUST enough power, but we had to be more patient than usual.

Whenever we were in a turn, the skier on the outside of turn would go outside the wake while the other would move straight behind the boat. *Turning was good*

The straight aways, the skiier in the back (moi) couldn't hardly see a thing due to the splash of skiier in front. But I mostly stayed behind the boat with maybe one ski riding the wake once and awhile.

I'm looking forward to trying again this summer, and maybe even with my husband.

Most use the same length ropes. You should be able to have enough control to stay away from each other. I would suggest that they do it one at a time until they can maneuver back and forth so they are able to ski without hitting each other.

Re: Advice for pulling 2 adults

I definitely recommend using ropes of the same length. It is easier for the skiers to communicate and no worries about one skier falling in front of the other.

We usually communicate before hand that if one skier falls, the other drops immediately. I recommend towing with a rope attached to each of the rear transom eyes rather than a ski pylon if you have one. The lower tow point will keep the bow down and help the boat to plane out quicker. Even though it will take more throttle to get them up, back out smoothly as you come on plane. Skiing doesn't take any more than 18-20 mph.

We've pulled 2, 3, 5, 6 and 8 skiers together at a time over the years and have had a lot of fun. In fact for kids skiing on combos we almost always pull 2 at a time. Like putting 2 riders on a tube, it becomes a social activity and more opportunity for fun horsing around.

I pull two skiers quite frequently, usually advanced ones who have little difficulty getting up so I can juice the throttle. I always use equal length ropes to reduce injury and one skier getting in the path of the other. they should be full length ski ropes (70', plus 5' of handle), not short tube tow ropes that are 50' or so.

In your case, the advanced skier should be able to yield to the novice. Pay attention and concentrate your effort on the novice skier, he's the one who will require the most guidance, maybe even have someone help in a shallow water start if possible.

Practice makes perfect...for both the skiers and driver.

My son and I double knee board. We use the same length rope.

Same length rope. Lowest tow point you can (no pylon) and practice them individually at first to maintain position they will use when there are 2 of them out there. Assuming you have enough power they will only be as good as their driver.
My 2 cents from how we have done it.

as others have said same length rope. Better skier should be able to get out of the way of the learner. Have done three before and it sucks to be in the middle as you get dusted from rooseter tails :)

18-20 mph for ski? that is no fun unless you have a wide trick ski you sink! Skiing only becomes fun over 30mph.

I'm in the 20 to 25mph range to ski. 30mph + and the water feels like a brick wall when you hit it if you fall.

The trick to getting around that is: Don't Fall. :D

Thats a good trick but I can't pull it off all the time.
I also find that it frightens new skiers that fall and knocks out any confidence they have built.
"No need for full speed" is my motto !!!:)

Definitely use the same length rope; we had freak accident with 2 good skiers using different length of rope. Always keep safety as priority.
