I have a Merc 650 1973 I replaced the Switch box ***. and it is running fairly well. Idle is abit rough, so I advanced the timing two teeth clockwise "belt on the distributor". seems to be just purring I turn down the idle speed and she runs great. I have not put her in the water yet to see how she does full out. Now the question can I damage anything by doing this??

Thanks Steve

Re: Advancing timing

If the engine is not timed properly before the test run it will destroy the engine, put it back with the timing at factoy spec.
