Hi,
This boat is new to me, here is the hardware:
Remote: Mercury 3000 Classic
Engine: 5.7L EFI Mercruiser
Leg: Bravo Two
Boat SeaRay 240 DA

All Year 2000.

Here is me problem:
I cannot adjust the throttle above idle without engaging gear. Now I am unfamiliar with the operation of the remote so am asking some questions about correct operation:
The remote has a cenral button (ATO) which when pressed in should allow the throttle lever to be moved forward and raise engine revs while remaining in neutral. Does the red interlock at the top of the handle need to be pulled up simultaneosly? My guess is not as I am sure that doing this will also engage the drive. Also s hould I be able to move the throttle forward with the engine stopped and the ATO button depressed anyway?
Fortunately the engine starts like a champ with no throttle, but reading through the engine operation manual, they say it is not good to operate at idle revs for more than a minute when flushing on the hard. So I really want to get this fixed.
I cannot speak to the previous owner as he only speaks Chinese. A mechanic has looke at it and says it is OK, but I think he is as familiar with the remote as I am...
Thanks in advance for any guidance to this newbie..

push the center button and hold it in while depressing the red interlock and moving the throttle handle. if its not broke you will now have throttle only.

Thanks. I guess this means it's broke! When I do this I hear a 'thunk' and the prop starts spinning..
I have'nt dissasembled yet, but I note there are two morse cables exiting from the remote. I assume one is throttle and the other gear selection. Is that correct?
I didn't want to confuse the issue in my first post, but now I will mention that the leg has been very recently serviced. Is it possible that this problem is related to incorrect re-assembly? Or is the 'ATO' function achieved internally within the remote? (I suspect and hope that it is).

It's not a drive problem, the cable is moving when it shouldn't be.
Your problem is in the control itself. The neutral only button is not releasing the shifter.

not only that its a sucky system and a pain to replace the throttle only drum. they sell a kit to fix it but its not adviasable to a novice.
had a lot of problems with them in those year ranges.
depending on access to the box it usually takes me 4 hours or so to fix one.
