What is the proper operation for starting / warming up / running using the advance timing knob on my 25 hp 2005 Mercury OB (2 stroke). The knob that I always thought was the choke actually advances the timing when pulled out once (and can be advanced further by turning clockwise) and primes the carb when pulled out a second postion. Should the knob be used to advance the timing while in full throttle? Could this have anything to do with the reason I stall when putting in gear? I just rebuilt the carberator and it still stalls.

The knob only functions to advanve the timing at idle for cold starting and the primer is only use a startup. The part of the knob that advances the idle by turning may be used to speed up the engine for trolling.
