I have a Volvo sterndrive (220HP, 5.0L carbed) on my 2004 Ebbtide 20' bowrider. My trim button does not have an additional trailer switch and it appears that the top range for trim is lower than normal. I assume this was adjusted due to an optional extended swim platform.
The problem lies when I have beached the boat. With the limited range, the bottom edge of the drive sits below the hull line, so when a wave comes in, the drive is hitting the sand instead of the bottom of the hull.
I know the simple answer is to stop beaching it, but it's pretty convenient with small children and even when I anchor in shallow water, a large wave can cause the same problem.
Seeing that there is about 4-5 inches between the top of the prop/drive and the extended swim platform, it would appear that I could adjust the range of the trim so that it would raise up a bit more at full trimmed up. However, I can't find any document or publication that describes how I would make this adjustment.
Is this possible and if so, can a amateur (changing gear lube is the extent of my handiness) make the change?
