Is there any additive that I can add to my gas on a 9.8 hp tohatsu that would prevent build up in the carb..as I'd like to cut off the possible build up

Start by running non-ethanol gas (usually as Premium, might be listed for off-road "farm" use), which will have better detergents. Make sure to buy only enough gas for 1 month or less, so it is always fresh. Run the carb dry at the end of the day. You should do well.

If using E fuels, consume most of the fresh fuel bought for that particular outing, top left overs with fresh fuel on your next outing and so on + run carb dry after outing is over.

There will still be a half a teaspoon in the bowl, but the level will be too low to cause any issue.

RR,

You are always welcome anytime, that's what the forums are for. Going back to run carb dry, As Paul pointed out when engine drops dead will leave minimun fuel leftovers on bowl but will leave a complte filled fuel filter. If engine will be stopped for long time periods keep pushed all the way the white engine male connector pin untill engine springs completely back to idle life dying not than soon after.

I love doing long water flushes to my horse after each salt water outing, disconnecting hose from engine will give X flushing minutes, you can double extend the flushing time by inserting a spare female engine connector once main engine hose is removed. If you find very boaring to wait untill engines drops dead, drink some cold beers along while doing so, specially during hot summer days, ain't that nice.

if that's the case, the fuel filter should be outside of the motor in the fuel line by the primer bulb???? not a beer drinker only tea and coffee

Nope, all engines usually have an internal small/medium size fuel filter. Yours is located between fuel line entrance & fuel/pump carb entrance. Check.
