adding volvo engine flush

Newer volvos have a fresh flush that allows flushing the engine with the engine shut down. I think it would attach to the raw water pump out flow? Can I add this to my 1996 5.0 Fl? I need to replace the leaking pump too.
Thanks for any help.

That engine flush system connects to the inlet/suction side of the raw water pump and the engine MUST be run. If flushing the engine with the boat in the water DO NOT run above idle and there must be a least 17 psi of fresh water pressure or sea water may be drawn in with the fresh water.

Reel Poor, thanks so much for the info, (never knew about the 17 psi) but I'm thinking of a different thing. It's called a "fresh water flush attachment" on page 2-39 of my seloc manual. It is on the upper forward starboard corner of the engine. I think it may tie in after the raw water pump because they are very emphatic that the engine must be off when used.

Maybe I should have titled this thread "Merc vs Volvo Engine Flush"! I'm gettin' "no respect here". :'(
Donsen't anyone know about the attachment I referring to?
One advantage is that you can flush your engine in or out of the water and without wasting gas.

The info I gave you is for the newer factory flush systems installed on the Volvo systems. I'm not familiar with what's in the Solec manual because I don't use Solec manuals. Can you post a pic from the manual or more accurate info? Do they give you a part # for the flush system they are talking about? Maybe thats an aftermarket system they are discussing.

Except for the fact that they say not to run the engine, we might be talking about the same thing. It appears to be a Volvo OEM item that is on newer Volvos. I'm quessing that it tees into the raw water pump outflow. Will post a pic when I can figure out how to scan it and then post it?

Here is a scan from the Volvo manual. The problem you are having my be the use of the Solec manual. All here would recommend the factory manuals.

Thanks Reel Poor, that's it!!
Can it be added to my '96 5.0FL?
Need to get the Volvo manuals. Have not been able to find a source for online ordering only the Selocs and worse the Clymers. Which Volvo manuals are needed?
Thanks again.

Here is a link where you can get the factory Volvo Penta Manuals

I'm sure it can be add to your 5.0 FL. Just another idea here. This is what I've used on my Volvo engines for a few years. They work great and with sufficient water pressure will actually check off the flow of water from the raw water pick-up. I even use them on my 06 model 5.7GXi that came factory equiped with the flush attachment in the pic I posted.

You can build it yourself, but Volvo Does have a kit available, we put one on a customer's boat 'bout a year ago....don't know of any reason '96 couldn't be
