I have a 1988 30 Johnson I would like to add tilt and trim to and read somewhere that the 28 and 30s had the large mount bracket and can use the PT&T unit from the bigger engines. Any body able to confirm this? I can get a used setup from a 70 complete with relays and harness if it will fit?

Thanks,

Dan

Cannot confirm that.

I can confirm that the power tilt kit, part # 0173737, fits most 20,25,28,30 and 35 HP motors from 1980 through 1993.

Re: Adding tilt and trim

The easiest way to add TT is with a CMC unit available here at iboats.

If you add a factory TT you have to find the right on, tear the engine apart to get it on and then hope it works, which alot of times they don't.

With the CMC TT you bolt it to the transom, bolt the motor to it and you are done and you know it will work for years and years, I have had mine for 6 years without a single problem.

I wouldn't get the trim gauge, I did and quite frankly I never ever look at it, after using the trim a couple times it is just second nature.

This is what I will be doing myself, and I feel it's good advice. I've always heard getting a used OMC TnT is a hit or miss thing, and it's a pain to do the swap. People always tell me to just get a CMC unit, which is my plan once I can afford one. It will also give the motor a few inches of set back, which will improve your ride a bit and getting on plane.

Re: Adding tilt and trim

Thanks for the replies, I can't use the CNC unit as this boat is my dinghy and hangs across the back of my boat and I can't have the extra 5 inches of width. The OEM unit is what I need and I'm not having any luck trying to find out what will fit when looking for a used one.

Thanks,

Dan

Re: Adding tilt and trim

i saw a small outboard tilt/trim in one of my magazines...........cant remeber if it was cabellas or bass pro--they dont always have the same products online..i dont understand why..........but the unit was for up to 30hp engines and didnt have any extra setback ------the cost was within $70 of the full size unit and i couldnt figure out why anyone would pay that much and not get the set back, but now i see where it could be usefull.
