I have a 16' Carolina Skiff with a 2004 50hp ETEC. I didn't come with a tach and I want to add one of those Tiny Tachs. I need to know how the firing works so that I can order the correct tach. Some motors fire the plugs only once per rev, whereas other motores fire each plug twice per rev. How does the 50hp ETEC work?

Thanks,

Chris
South GA

Not that much different than a carb 2 stroke.

once, every rev.

Poolecw,

Since you do not have a tach on the motor, you DO have the 4 light System Check warning gauge and a warning horn, right????

If not, you do not have a warranty on the motor.

Yes, I have the system check gauge. It also has a speed and voltage meter, but no tach! On a boat, a tach is more important than a speedometer(in my opinion). If I understand you guys right, the plugs fire only once per rev.

Thanks for the info.

I've been out twice with my 50hp etec and can't see a difference in the fuel level. and SMOOTH is the word that describes it.

you can add a tach or change system check gauge to a tach with system check ( both require a larger hole)
note tach setting is scale 6
