I would like to add a tachometer to my '75 Johnson. The manual says there is a wire in the control box for adding one. What do I attach that wire to on the guage, and what else is involved in the wiring ?

Is there a three hole receptical in the back of the control? If so, this is where the tach connects. Teleflex makes a tach and the wiring harness for it.

c/6

Hooty

Don't have a unit yet. Wanted to see what was involved before I purchased. I know the Johnson control unit has that one wire already in the control box. Is that a sending wire? I assume I then will have two wires on the tach for pos. and neg.? Any help is appreciated.

should be a grey wire for the pulses. And ust like you thought, pos. and neg., that's it. On the back of the tach there are settings for the number of pulses pr. revolution. Set it to your stators # of coils and that's it(usually 6).
