What would be involved to add a 50 or 60HP motor with power trim to my 2001 Starcraft Starfire 150?
The current motor is a Merc 25hp and the controls have the up/down switch on the throttle but the 25hp does not have power trim.
The 25hp in not enough for what we want out of this boat.

Any help would be appreciated

Re: Adding power trim motor to non power boat

This is an issue I would really like to see somebody with experience in outboards address. There are a lot of large displacement two stroke motors available that would sell easily as power units for pontoon boats if only they could have power tilt added. It's virtually impossible to tilt an outboard on a pontoon boat from the boat. I recently passed on an incredible deal on a 24ft Aqua Patio because the only affordable large displacement motors were two strokes with no power tilt. Two in particular a 70's 125 Merc and a 70's 150 Merc. The Aqua Patio is rated for a 150 so either would have been solid units for this boat.

Re: Adding power trim motor to non power boat

Thank you for the reply.
My question is the boat has a 25hp without power tilt.
I want to add a 60hp with power tilt.
The controls have the up down switch.
With a 60hp motor close to the same years what will I have to do?

Sounds like you'll have to unbolt the 25hp and bolt on the 60hp. Hook up the harness and have fun. Unless you have an external trim pump, then you'd also have to mount that in the boat. I added power tilt/trim to my 66 Merc 850. All I did was take the shock looking things off and put the rams in their place. Then I mounted the trim pump in the boat, hooked it all up, went to the lake and had fun.
