Has anyone had any success adding an autochoke to a 9.8 tohatsu without replacing the carb. I have the ef model and can add the selonoid and related hardware, but unable to add the plunger valve as that part of the carb is sealed. Also choke plate position is 180 degrees different from ep models with the autochoke. Has anyone had any luck making a modification to there Ef model to make that choke selonoid open and close the choke as currenly designed.
Thank you,
John

Re: Adding Auto choke

The MFS9.8 has never had an automatic choke. The EP models do have an electric choke solenoid, used with the "push-to-choke" ignition switch, which, while remotely-operated, is still a manual choke. It's a completely different carb setup from the EF model, and does not have choke detents. Adding an electric solenoid to the EF model might activate the choke, but would not release it properly. If you want to convert to electric choke, you need the carb for the EP model.
