Hi Guys in the next few months and in early spring I had planned on fishing a few recreational tournaments. Mostly for fun and to get to fish some other places. Problem is when I went to register for one, I find that one of the requirements is that the boat have an emergency shut off that attaches to the driver. Well having an older boat mine obviously doesn't have one. Is there anyway to add one without the expense of a new Controler? I would like to add one anyway but need one if I want to fish any of these tourneys. Thanks for the help. I searched the forums and came up empty.

Matt

Hmmmm?
I'm sure you will get some suggestions.

What motor and controller do you have?

Hmmm?

How about... attach a rope to the plug, you fall overboard, plug is pulled, boat will sink, engine will stop. No, thats no good.

Hmmm?

Ok Sorry guys, driving to work this am I remembered I hadn't added the correct info to get the help I needed. Sorry about that. My boat is a 1976 Hyda sport with a Mercury 115 with a mercury control. I have had small outboards that had the switch on the tiller but Bass boats are new to me. Thanks again and sorry for the lack of info.

Matt

forget the tourneys,,, you should always have a kill switch connected to you..

nuthin' more than a red button momentary switch.. theres a little 'fork' that slides behind the button that holds it out...

out is go ..

pull fork,,that is connected to you,, ,,,button goes in...

in is stop...

you can buy them in any marine center ... drill/mount anywhere...

i did this to a boat once..

i disconnected a wire i thought would kill the engine...( to coil ) it did...

soldered on a wire to this wire...

ran it to the switch...

ran other wire from switch to where the original wire went/hooked to..

a typical switch loop ... up an back...

Yep,
Just like crab bait says.....
You Could use 1 off a jet-ski..... or ski-doo......
They use a little rubber cap to hold the plunger In....
Just tap into the wires going to the key switch......

Both of those are available at the westmarine web sight, the first one you can also buy here at iboats for a cheaper price then west marine. They are both under $15.00

OK guys thanks, I didn't realize the kits exist. I checked online and found several but wow they are sure proud of shipping. Nearly half of the cost of the kit. So I called the local marine shop, one I don't like to deal with has them in stock, the other will have to order. So I think I will wait for the order to come in. But again I thank you for the help.

Matt
