I'm wanting to add a trim gauge to my Evinrude. Do I need a special harness to do this? I've found a blue plug in the trim harness is this for the gauge? Does it hook direct to the gauge or do I need a extra harness?

Thanks It's a 1986 XP 200HP Evinrude

Others will answer whether the wires are in your current harness (my bet is that it is there, but I don't know for sure).

Worse case is that you just run a duplex wire from the trim sender to the trim gauge. That is an easy solution also.

The wires should already be there, they will be of a smaller gauge than the others.

You don't need any special harness to wire in a trim guage . As long as your motor has a sending unit on the swivel bracket ( the bracket that connects your motor to the transom ). Wiring in a guage is really very simple . There will be two wires coming from the sending unit , one will go to the ground on the guage , and the other will go to the "S" terminal on the guage . The guage itself will have one hot wire coming from your ignition switch ( or any other hot source for that matter ) , that connects to your "I" terminal on the guage , and then a ground wire . That is pretty much it . The key is whether or not your motor has the sending unit or not .

Forgot to mention that you will have a wire for the light in your guage . All you'll have to do there is run one wire to another guage or any wire that becomes hot when your lights are turned on .

Not having a sending unit is really no big deal either . A new one will probably cost ya around 50 bucks . There is not much to it , it's just a small sealed unit with an arm that moves up and down as your engine trims up or down . You should be able to get one from iboats . You will have to know where to look for the guage on your motor . It is pretty much completely hidden when your engine is trimmed down .
