Adding a tach to a 2001 Nissan 140 hp

I had a 88 Nissan 90 hp and it had a tach that I would use. I just got a 2001 Nissan 140 hp and wanted to hook up the tach. The guy that sold me the motor told me I needed to add something to the motor so I could have the tach working. What do I need to do to do this?

It takes the same tach and all you need is the tach wiring harness from the tach to the main wiring harness.
