Adding a Sundeck

My toon has a raised motor section, and the ends are lower. One side for fuel and the other for battery. I plan on adding two cabinets to raise the end sections and a sundeck to cover the whole thing. It will give me more storage at the same time. Any concerns? One concern I have is the added weight. I will probably make the boxes out plywood or maybe polyethylene if I can find it. I am an Upholsterer BTW.

Finding someone who can upholster is the hardest part of that job and since you know a guy I think you are in, the weight should be less than a person standing back there so if your boat will take that and still be high enough in the water I think you are okay.

The ply will weigh alot less than the poly and be cheaper so I would go with that.

You have not said what brand and size of pontoon boat you have.

I would be hesitant to put a sun deck on a pontoon unless it was a very big pontoon--28' preferably. With standard pontoon widths, a sun roof is not very stable--due to the boat having a relatively high center of gravity.

Sun roofs also affect trailering a boat in a negative way--like a big sail.

I saw a couple of Premier 10' by 31' pontoon boats online for sale last week, and that's what I'd want to have for a sun roof/deck.

This will not be a sun (2nd story) roof structure just over the rear of the boat. I will try and post a picture of my plan as I get closer.
