adding a faucet

I just replaced my aeration pump on my boat and had an idea to add a faucet. I am curious if anyone else has done this and how did it turn out. What I am thinking is to install a small faucet somewhere on the boat and with a diverter, I could either have the water go to the livewell (like normal) or divert it to the faucet. The faucet would only be used to rinse hands, etc after baiting hooks (daughter doesn't like worm guts). The toggle switch on the dash would be used to turn it on/off. I even thought about installing this on the gunnell so that it would run on the outside of the boat instead of the inside. Any thoughts????

Re: adding a faucet

thought of this a while back on a pontoon, the answers I got was the pressure will not be that great, do a search for wash down pumps and you can decide for yourself, a wash down pump might be the best thing, just squirt your hands off with the hose, plus you can rinse the blood and guts off the boat too ....lol

Sounds like a project to me.
I was on a sturgeon fishing trip in Oregon a few years back and our guide had the engine cooling water outlet routed to a small faucet mounted on top of the transom and another pump providing the cold water. It was great to rinse off your hands

Re: adding a faucet

I have that idea as a work in progress on my pontoon. I have a nice area at the stern for a small sink which is made from a simple plastic storage box. I installed a through-hull barb fitting to which a drain hose will be attached. I will use a livewell pump but rather than a faucet, I'll use a kitchen sink sprayer and hose. It is correct that the pressure will not be high but the sprayer will make that a none issue. Go for it!

I wasn't really concerned about pressure. In my old boat, it sat low enough in the water that you could reach the lake to rinse your hands. My current boat sits higher, so it is a longer reach to the lake. I may consider this when I re-do the boat this winter. I do like the sink sprayer idea. That would allow me to tuck it away and not have a permanent mount somewhere.
