I'm toying with the idea of removing the 140 I/O setup and replace it with a 150 or 200 horse outboard on a bracket.
Has this been done ? If so, what are the structural changes that have to be done on the inside of the transom and the rest of the boat?
Having 3 or 4 hundred pounds of engine hanging about 2 feet away from the stern must exert a lot of stress not only while in the water but also while trailering. Please tell me about your experiences, ideas and opinions. Thank you.

I personally have thought about the idea. A bracket that provides floatation is expensive but should work fine.

The other thing I considered was redesign the transom and hang the outboard on the boat and build a splash well.

Why go so much hp. A 115hp evinrude e-tec should push that boat along nicely.
Post pictures if you modify.
I am looking for a 25-26 starcraft and plan to put twin outboards on it. Still looking for the boat and thinking twin 90hp.

I know one of the guys in the referb thread put a bracket on his 25' Chief, but it's not done yet. It seems like it would work well, but $1,600 +/- for the bracket is spendy, but I've toyed with the idea off and on. I wonder if a transom saver engine bar would still fit?

The mounting holes for the bracket should line up/be connected to knees that transfer the load to the stringers/hull. You will probably need additional knees.

They make a "bent" transom saver to clear things like brackets or boats that hang further off the back of a trailer. http://www.iboats.com/Swivl-Eze-MD-...2773914--session_id.998284319--view_id.341235

I agree with your horsepower recommendation. Should easily exceed the 140 I/O

There is a guy that has done it with a sylvan a couple of years ago, he goes by the name weldzilla, there are a couple of others that are close to splashing, one in Minnesota.
