Are there any engine modifications that can be done to a 2001 Merc 140 2 stroke? It's mounted inboard on a jet boat so there's plenty of room if something can be added.
Thanks,
James

Re: Add Power

Are you sure it's a 140? I know of nothing between 120 and 175. But I'll admit my Sportjet knowledge has a few gaps. Or is that a typo? There are 240s which are the largest I'm aware of. Is it an inline-4 or a V-6? Or is it something other than a Sportjet?

Oops sorry, you're right... typo. It's a 240. The owner of this boat that I may buy said his mechanic told him it's rated 250 when mounted as a standard outboard. Don't know if that's true. Still the same displacement.

Jets aren't as efficient as props. That's why the drop. You can trick-out that powerhead on an outboard and I'm sure many of the methods would carry over to jets. I'm not sure how much Hp that drive can handle, and I'm not sure what ramifications modifications might have on an EFI or DFI. A good forum for beefing-up powerheads is screamandfly dot com.
