I need to replace my push-to-choke ignition switch. It's just seen better days. Which OMC switch can I replace it with that includes the kill switch integral to the switch itself? Put a different way, what year model OMC switch can I use on my '73 so that a kill is incorporated into the switch?
Thank you!
Jim

NEVER MIND - I just found out that my state requires the kill switch only for outboards LARGER than 50HP. Mine is 50HP, so I guess I don't need one (to satisfy the law anyway!)

I know it's not my business but I would highly recommend a kill switch. Your life is worth it. I've put them on 9.9's and 9.5's. Just today I read a thread where someone got knocked out of his boat shortly after installing one. I don't mean to sound preachy but. . . . I think they are such a good idea. I have a best friend who has prop scars from his calf. right up to the top of his shoulder. You can see every turn of the prop. He had hundreds of stitches and that was just one pass over him at speed. Broken steering cable threw him out the side window. Best of luck. Rick.

Rick helped me yesterday. Got the pushbutton lanyard kill switch from local marine shop, 12$. Run2wires to your points/mag wires works great. Now i just have to mount it. I fell out of my boat the day AFTER i installed my kill lanyard on my other motor last yr. Toes over forehead out over transom. Engine quit . No probs. I would spend the 12$.IMO

If this is repeat, sorry, I couldn't see my reply. First, thank you for reminding me that safety for myself and my passenger(s) should not wait on the law to mandate it. I wear my helmet in Florida, even though it is a helmet-free state. Simple question, which kill switch would you buy for the 50ESL73R? Can it be wired right at the helm, tied into the ignition? I just ordered a new 3-position, push-to-choke ignition switch yesterday, so I'll be in there anyway. Thank you very much.

The newer ignition switches from 1996 and up have the lanyard built right into them and they are push to choke. They should work on your mtr. Part # 175974.
