Was jusy curious - have read about adding closed cell foam(strips?) to undersides of bow, storage under seats, and under aft deck area to my 16'aluminum boat w/ 40 hp Merc to increase floatability/safety - does anyone have any ideas or experience? Thanks, Heinz

SURE.....try to find polypropolene foam much better but hard to find and a little on the expensive side. WILL NOT hold water like some other foams over a period of time and corrode your aluminum boat.

FlyBoy

Question: If you don't take on water, does the foam do you any good at all? That is besides making flimsy aluminum more study when you sit a big fat butt such as mine on. :D

I think the answer is no, but will wait. I will say this: I saw where someone did not unchain their aluminum boat and a rain came. The boat had water inside but was not sunk. Eventually it was overcame, but think it was still pulling up on the chains when freed. Will have to ask my step-father, OOPS!! if his boat has the foam. :D

Billy Bob

Some folks say spray on foam, which type foam best? Where to install on boat? Boat has no foam. Thanks, Heinz

I had an old aluminum 16ft boat that came with foam under the seats and floor. It once got put under from a storm. The boat will not sink to the bottom, but will never hold the motor up out of the water. ;)
