Wondering if anyone could tell me what to order. I want to add another layer of protection to the fuel system considering I use 90% pump gas.

Can I just order something like this and put it in the middle of the line that runs from the tank to the cool fuel module?

You have the bravo drive setup, right? If so you can add one of those without issue. Don't think it will change anything with pump gas though. There have been others which add one of those filters so they don't have to pay the big bucks for the filter in the cool fuel box.

Ayuh,... If ya don't already have a canister type fuel filter 'tween the tank, 'n fuel pump, go ahead, 'n mount 1 'bout anywhere,....

Make it easy to change, 'n easy to install, nearly full of fuel,...

Yes its a bravo and ding, ding, ding I hate the $70 it costs to change out the cool fuel module filter.

On another note I would like to put a fuel filter on it that has the drain on the bottom but I hear the clear plastic ones are not USCG approved. Anyone shed some light on this one?

Oh yeah and does anyone know what side barb fittings I should order? I din't remember what size my fuel line is.

you would need to have a look at the hose to determine what size it is.

Just 1 question though, what exactly are you "fixing" by adding an additional filter?

The Racor clear fuel filters are USCG approved and cost a lot more. Unless your in an area where water is found in your gas I don't see the need unless you just like the looks. Your regular maintenance will change it out way before water would be an issue

Not really fixing anything just trying to avoid a breakdown. I really don't know what the people at merc where thinking when they did the cool fuel thing. If you get water in to your fuel the only way to get it out is to take the whole thing apart and drain the cup that the filter sits in. I would prefer to have a filter that I can drain.

If you are on a lake and this happens sure no big deal, take it apart, limp back to the dock whatever, when you are 200 miles from your trailer I think I would perfer to just screw on a new filter or buy one with a drain to drain any water that it got.

Ayuh,... While I don't have the part number, I do know that Napa carries an all metal filter with a water trap drain plug in it, that fits the Mercruiser filter adapter thread pitch, 'n o-ring size,....

'n Napa filters are rebadged Wix filters, which are some of the Best available,...

Thanks guys I just ordered the kit. Apparently you can only use the filters with the clear bowls and drain for outboart or diesel. I just ordered a few extra filters JIC.

Re: Add extra water/fuel seperator

So my fuel filter and mount came in. I am going to install it inline today. Few questions.

1. Will I have to prime the suystem or will the Cool Fuel Gen III be self priming?
2. Can I just take the filters out of the Cool Fuel Gen III module and run without them seeing as I have an inline filter now?

Re: Add extra water/fuel seperator

I'd leave the cool fuel filter in just to help protect the fuel pump. Ya can't use the plastic bowl in an engine comparttment due to the fire hazard I think.

Re: Add extra water/fuel seperator

+1 with Bondo, won't hurt anything to leave the original fuel filter in the cool fuel module. Maybe every 2 or 3 years open it up and take a look. I'm thinking it should be pretty clean. There is another thread here from last year where another did the same thing, but he did remove the filter and left the screen. That is if I remember correctly, but my memory isn't what I thought it use to be or something like that.....What where we talking about?
