Ayuh,....

It's probably already plumbed into the back of the boat, at the inner transom plate Now.....

I don't think the older ones did, but you should be able to fit one....:)

91, 92, and the early 93 Alpha I Gen II drives didn't have them, nor a way to install one like in use with the newer ones. No place for the check valves in the bellhousing, the drive, or the fitting thru the transom shield.
Those drives do have a dipstick in the top of the outdrive cap.

Re: Add a gear lube monitor?

Mercury has a kit P/N 69622A7 for the Alpha Gen I. Will work with any drive. Got it on my drive.

Comes with a reservior, hoses and fittings.

1. Reservior mounts inside boat,
2. drill through hole in transom for hose at about 2-3 inches above and left of top of transom assembly.
3. Remove drive oil fill vent plug
4. Connect hose (half ss braided/half rubber) to reservior and drive vent hole.

Kit comes with cover and grommet to cover amd seal transom hole.

The self filling/replenishment is no big deal. As a leak indicator - nothing comes close - worth every cent.

Doesn't seem like it would be too hard to add some kind of float-based level sensor to the cap of the resorvoir on the kit QYSTAN described above. Heck, my cheapo cars have them on the windshield washer fluid! I'm sure it would be entirely too much to hope for that one of those would simply screw on though!
