adapter leaking on 6 gal gas tank, Evinrude motor

Hi,
I have an Evinrude outboard motor and a 6gal portable gas tank.

Since recently, if the hose is not hooked up to the tank, gas spills out of the adapter on the tank (it spills out of the hole it is supposed to come out of) I guess there is a stop mechanism on the tank that no longer works. Can this be fixed?

If I hook the gas hose up, it's fine and everything works, but I don't want to spill gas when the hose is off.

I pulled the core plug out and attached some pics, I'm not sure how to proceed.

Thanks
Nick

Should be some O-rings in there, they go bad and need replacing sometimes, or there could be some gunk in it. Finding a rebuild kit might not be easy, but you can typically find matching O-rings at the auto parts store.

After the first posts photos, this is the next piece to come out, now it's a straight shot through to the output hole. All the o rings look very good. Some time in the past I recall the plastic core plug blew off on it's own. I remember seeing this spring and putting the pieces back in. I'm wondering now if there is a Missing o ring

I'm going go try and get an o ring that fits around that last pictured piece. I don't know if one belongs there or not and could have been lost. Looking at how it goes together though, I don't quite get the mechanics of it, feel like I'm missing something obvious

I have no idea on that, I'm sure if you googled a rebuild kit or contacted the manufacturer you might get an answer.

Sometimes the tanks get thrown away due to stuff like this.

Thanks for the help.

I've been searching around and I do see a few threads looking for the parts for this tank (duratank essence) but they all lead to a dead end.

So I suppose I'll buy a new tank.

One more question, will I need a new hose?
The old connection is this pic of the tank, with the yellow plastic pins.
New connections all look to be this other pic with a tiny metal pin

If you do switch to the brass fitting then you can just buy a connector and attach to your hose.

Ok, last question...
I have a 1982 70hp Evinrude.

What size connector is on that motor? And do the sizes matter as long as each side fits?

Currently the motor, tank, and both sides of the hose are the same.

I just ordered the same dura tank again (with the updated adapter) the description says "for use with 3/8 hose assembly" https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005Z...Z0L&ref=plSrch

I see mostly 1/4 adapters, and 3/8 or 5/16 hose assembly parts. So it's telling me to get 3/8, is that what I have now on the old stuff, which is all the same size as the motors adapter? I do recall thinking my friends 1990s 225hp looked to have larger fuel parts

Edit: ok I think I'm confusing myself now.... So the 3/8 or 5/16 is simply the hose diameter correct? The male adapter, are these always the same for the last few decades on Motors and tanks or are there different sizes? Most parts I see are "1/4" NPT Fuel Connector" I was under the impression there were 2 sizes for this, or is that incorrect?

Hose sizes are different, the connection part is the same. The hose barb on the connector is sized for the hose
