Picked up a pair of Ad-10s for restoration. The one is seized, and is currently soaking in an ATF/Acetone solution, the second has a large hole in the head. Pictures below. Was hoping to get 1 good motor out of the 2. If I can solve the power head solution, I should be able to get the rest of the motor between the 2. Also a good picture below of what coils are NOT suppose to look like, lol. The seized motor had quite a bit of rust accumulation after removing the viewing ports, hopefully I can salvage it, hate wasting these.

Before the teardown

Re: AD-10 Overhaul

Under no circumstances would I try to free up and rotate that rusted powerhead. I would tear it down first. Why? Because if there is rust in the connecting rod/crankshaft journal, and you rotate the crank, the rust will grind away at the aluminum rod bearing surface. Then if you start it up, you will punch another hole.

Re: AD-10 Overhaul

Thanks Frank, I dont want a hole in this powerhead. I was actually surprised at the amount of rust dust accumulated in the journals and ports. Had to get the shop vac to suck it all up. Was originally hoping to get by with a mild honing of the cylinders, but those pistons seem to be frozen solid. Not sure if I can salvage either of these heads. Ill tear open the one with the hole this afternoon and see what Im dealing with.

Re: AD-10 Overhaul

I was late for dinner, as usual, but got it stripped down. Everything was covered in rust. Might be easier to get a new powerhead at the next meet, lol.

Re: AD-10 Overhaul

What size motor is the AD 10?
I need a new power head and a steering bracket for my AD 12 (1958-7.5 hp).
Maybe the parts are the same and at least you could make a couple of bucks on the steering bracket??

Let me know.
Thanks,
JW
