Accident with Merc 25......

I was launching my boat in a private lake that had no ramp. The bank was pretty steep and while backing in the winch rope on the bow broke and my boat hit the water at a even steeper angle. This caused the prop exhaust to become plugged with gumbo mud. Before cranking I removed the prop and cleaned it and the exhaust housing thoughroly. ALso checked the water intakes on the lower unit. the engine fired and ran fine, tell-tale squirted fine. Don't know if its me just worrying and hearing rattles that have always been there or not. My question is, other than possibly a bent prop is there anything else that may have been hurt? Prop spins in neutral just fine and nothing scrapes and theres no noise in the L/U.

I would inspect the transom of my boat closely, jus tto make sure nothing was bent where the motor clamps to the boat. You could have put a lot of stress there.

If nothing looks bent at the bottom end (spin the prop by hand and watch the end of the shaft nut, etc.) you should be OK.

I would baby it a trip or two to be sure though.

Thanks S.Dawg, I looked that the transome and the lower end of the engine and everything looks ok. I didn't think about spinning the prop and watching the end of the shaft. Thanks.
