Accessory Wire at Ignition Switch?

This is a picture of the wiring harness at my ignition switch. From what I can tell, the red wire from the plug is from the battery, and that goes to the fuse. The fuse then feeds the “BAT” post on the ignition switch. The orange wire from the plug connects to the red write from the plug on the unprotected side of the fuse.

It seems strange to me that the orange wire from the plug just connects to the red wire from the plug. Seems there would be no reason to run this orange wire to this fuse just to connect it to the unprotected side of the fuse.

Is this orange wire the accessory line?

The 4-position ignition switch shown there is new. The old one was a 3-position with no “ACC” post. I’m wondering if someone before me replaced a 4-position ignition switch with a 3-position ignition switch and then just connected the accessory line directly to the battery line.

If so, I should be able to just move the orange wire from the unprotected side of the fuse to the “ACC” post on the ignition switch? Thoughts?

Thanks!

Depends on what the orange wire feeds. If it goes to another location and is fused, then all good.

Yes, you could move the orange to Acc but then again do you need a Acc side or is Run good enough? Most boats just have 3 positions. Things like radio, fish finder and other use their own power switches to turn them on

Thanks. I didn't know most boats were 3-position ignition. I just grabbed an ignition from the boat part store. I didn't realize it was 4-position until I went to install it. I can just wire it up like a 3-position.

An amp turn-on needs very little power. Just use the accessory wire, again, if what you've got hooked up to it works. Just gotta make sure you put a 1amp fuse in-line with your turn-on wire.
