As the title states, I'm getting close to purchasing a new Tohatsu kicker. It's for an 18+' aluminum cuddy with a canvas top, so it's got some windage consideration, therefore eliminating the single cylinder 6. So I'm trying to decide between the 8 and the 9.8. The only reason the 8 is a consideration is price. For my use, would it be worth the extra $200 for a long shaft 9.8 over the LS 8? Same engine, different carb, correct?
It will be used on a large lake that generates high wind and seas at times (Champlain), and will be used for trolling, which is 90% of the boat's total running time.
I was going to piggyback on the 6 vs 9.8 thread from a couple of days ago, but figured I should start my own.
I guess I'm just asking if there's any advantage to the 8 hp is price isn't factored into the decision.
Thanks!
