The new gasket I got from the marina this weekend is all grey, like it's coated in graphite. The old one is black and says do not use sealant. Since the new one dosent say no sealer, should I use something? I have read to not use it, but wanted to be sure with this one. Thanks

Forgot to add. The new gasket is OEM with logo and part number on it.

When they don't have the " use no sealer " on them, either use OMC gasket sealing compond or Permatex #3.

Certainly cant hurt to use a bit of the gasket sealing compound. I now do them dry. I had to get into my 115 so many times during trouble shooting a heat issue, after several gaskets--I began assembling dry and have had no issues (also didnt specify). retorqued after a couple runs and all seems good. maybe my heads and block can do that if they are fairly flat. I had a 90 and it always seemed to "weep" water dropletts when I used sealant. This 115 seems happy dry.

Thanks guys. Installed the gasket dry as I did not have the proper sealant here and wanted compression numbers tonight. Unfortunately it didn't bring comp up like I was hoping. Found water in lower right cylinder last week and turns out head gasket was blown between the two metal rings that seal the cylinders. Have 105# on two left cylinders and 85# bottom and 95# on top starboard side cold. Guess cylinders were a little too scored.

Bought this boat a few months ago. Put new plugs in and idled great on muffs. After that idle slowly got worse. Unfortunately at the time I didn't know everything to look for when I bought it. Looks like motor was over heated by previous owner. Can see some wire casings melted and paint bubbled in a couple spots. Time to stop putting money into this motor and start looking for another to replace it I guess. It wouldn't bother me as much if wasn't for my 4 1/2 year old daughter wanting to go out on the new boat. Sorry guys just bummed and venting.
