Gents,

Thanks for the great board! I'm new to both this board and Honda outboards. My previous experience was all in Volvo Penta I/O's.

Anyhow, I recently bought a boat with a 130hp Honda 4stroke which has put on the boat in 1998.

Should I contact Honda, or am I completely out of luck concerning the cracked block recall?

Thank you very much!

Brian

Affected BF130 motors have frame serial numbers ranging from BZBE-1000001~1201321 and BZBH-1000001~1200180. See also the earlier post on this website for more info.

Sorry, forgot to mention that if your motor is affected, you can determine if the previous owner already had the 'one-time complimentary' inspection for the cracked block done by looking on the inside of the engine cover. If you see "Block Insp" and a date written in marker pen there, then at least at that date your engine was OK. If nothing else, you still have the warranty extended to 10 years from the original purchase date.

Hey guys,

I have BF130 that I bought from Canada. Anyone know if the 10 year block warranty still would still apply?

Re: About that honda recall?...

The letter I got from the AMERICAN (emphasis added) Honda Motor Co., Inc. regarding the warranty extension reads "The warranty extension is automatically transferred to any subsequent owner. This letter, along with proof of original purchase, is all that is required to obtain warranty service." So, it would seem that unless there's a Canadian Honda Motor Co. with a different policy, the 10 year warranty extension from the date of original purchase would apply IF you've got the letter and proof of original purchase. But you're going to need a good dealer to represent you, 'cause Honda won't talk to you directly. See above for whether your motor is affected or been inspected. Good luck.

Gents,

Well, bad news. I checked my serial number, and it's BZBE-1001163. That appears to fall within the range of engines which may have a problem.

Also, this engine too was bought in Canada and I'm the third owner.

Guess I need to dig up the original purchase receipt (which I think I have) and contact the local Honda shop.

Or, should I contact Honda directly?

Thanks...
