This evening my wife and I drove to the boat ramp to view the fireworks..... when the pyro show ended the real show began!

Watching people retrieve their boats at night is an interesting show. We watched many many drunks back the trailer in WAY too deep, many left their lower unit in the down position and did a bit of skeg damage ....

One brain surgeon with a chaparral not only left the lower unit down but lost his trailer....thank God for safety chains.

People left navigation boat lights on as they trailered away .....

however the best show was with a 15-16 open fishing boat..... NO LIGHTS at all but, they were not even powered....no motor just a boat load of drunks with paddles....... NO TRAILER so..... everyone got together and got the boat into the bed of a pickup. No tie downs but, plenty of beer courage ......they took off squealing tires and fish tailing.
a few minutes later we noticed a nice dog wandering around and it came to my wife.... people came over and said the dog was with the drunks on the boat...... I mentioned that since they did not have a trailer maybe they stole the boat......... they returned just in time because someone volunteered to bring the dog to a local animal control officer...... they took the dog and took off like maniacs again. On our way home we encountered blue lights...... low and behold there was the boat in a ditch, the drunks with their truck and a nice State Trooper lending a hand :p

My wife summed up the evening as educational to watch a ramp at night ;)

Re: A witness to stupid

I just arrived home from my fouth of july weekend. When I went around to retrieve our sea doo's. at the boat dock. we found a family "camped" on the floating dock. A couple of lawn chairs and a boat ramp are defiently better than cable tv!

only thing better than a busy ramp on a holiday weekend is when a thunder storm is approaching fast.
makes the show even better.

This really does not surprise me , I have seen a few people who were advised by others not to drive after an obvious drunken boat loading just take off and take their chances with other peoples lives . Glad the HP got one of them .

Too bad the drunks don't take themselves out. Unfortunately, they usually end up taking out innocents.

Re: A witness to stupid

thats awsome....yeah there's some nut jobs at the docks thats fer sure!

I love watching people try to load a boat onto a trailer thats only in a foot of water, they try powering up the bunks....rocks and mud a spraying .... most likely they borrowed the boat from dad or grandpa etc......

the old SKEG DRAG is kinda funny....although Im guilty of one time rushing off and not having the out-drive tilted up, lucky my skeg sets high enough not to scrape at full down (one inch clearance) WHEW! :D
