My former wife (now a widow) and I would like to take our four adult (38 to 48) children and some of their children to Oahu next year for a week or two.

We met and married there in 1955 and would like to visit places that stir memories.. . .Barbers Point, Hanauma Bay, Hotel Street, etc. and, of course, Waikiki, Makaha, USS Arizona.

We were thinking of renting a house on the water or up in the heights above Pearl Harbor or Honolulu.

Thoughts or suggestions from residents or Kama-ainas?

Aloha nui loa. :)

Shaka bra---Spent two years in Kaneoh across the famed Liki-Liki and Pali-highway(sp)---Can't offer rentals but remember the curse about having pork in you car when driving to otherside...Maddam pali)sp) will look upon you with dis-favor...I was there early 70's and things I'm sure have changed since our stint..

jb, been there done it quite a few times. what a great place to visit every so often. here's a suggestion- place an add in one of the military newspapers asking for a house to rent for a week or two. ask the question, "will you be deployed during the month of ...?" you may be able to grab a nice house at a decent price from a sailor or marine that will be gone anyway. they're always looking to score a few extra bucks.

Re: A week or two on Oahu.

Thanks, Mattttt. Hadn't thought of that. :)

One of our Daughters is a CDR in USNR (Medical), her husband is a retired Master Chief Corpsman. They have talked of staying at Ft. Shafter.

Your suggestion just might put the rest of us up.

Too bad Barbers Point is no longer a NAS. Daughter and I were both stationed there in VR-21 (20 years apart).

jb- also, if you are retired, you can stay in one of the best hotels in all of hawaii at a great price- the hale koa. just another thought.

but i think my first suggestion would work. good luck-
