A waterski or art?

My wifes family had a reunion this weekend, which consisted of boats, skiing, more boats and any form of activity you can do in a lake. Her uncle from CA has always used a beautiful wood ski that he has taken incredible care of since it was new. Unfortunately he was unable to ski any more and decided to give the ski away. I'm not sure why I was the lucky recipient but I'm honored and it'll be kept safely on my wall.

Havn't seen an old ski with this kind of work before. Stainless hardware, drop through fin. Looks like brand new. Pretty cool old ski and much nicer than anything I actually use. Vogue Ski - Temple City, CA

Sweet. It's great to keep it in the family. And a testament to the idea that if you take care of stuff it will last a long time.
You HAVE to at least take it for a spin sometime. :) My guess is that it's super stiff and pretty squirrelly. I tried a buddy's Connelly Hook all wood ski a few years back. Hmmm.... new found respect for the folks who could rock and roll on them back in the day.

This guy might be able to tell you some more about Vogue:

Wow, that is quite an assortment that the guy has for sale. Seems unlikely that I'll ever take the ski out, even if I weren't afraid of damaging it - the bindings are non adjustable and set for a size 8.5.

Well, it's a waterski designed to get wet once in a while so that shouldn't hurt it unless you run it up onto the beach. If you remount the front horseshoe a bit further forward it will be custom for you. :) Or just hang it on the den or shop wall and enjoy looking at it.

Steve Maher is the the only company still making wood skis that I am aware of. I've skied on a fiberglass Maha about 25 years ago but non of his wood skis or longer stuff.

I learned to slalom on my dad's wooden Cypress Gardens "Banana Peel". It is by far the easiest ski to get up on I have ever used since it's about 71-72" long and plenty wide. Not going to win any skiing competitions with it, but it rides nice and is just fine for recreational skiing. We still keep it around, but I haven't used it since I got my HO Triumph.

LOVE it!!! And the "Heaven Has A Dock" poster!

I have moved away from the coast, and have hung both my surfboards up as art...But still usable, if I decide to take a 90 minute drive!

Re: A waterski or art?

Because I was born when Roosevelt was still in his second term (No, not Teddy) I only ski a few times each summer any more but it is all done on wood. Use an old set of Cypress Garden **** Pope models, a Cypress garden slalom ski to show the grandkids I still can, and a pair of brand unknown marked Trihedral Tunnel Bottom. They are like strapping logs to your feet and want to turn you upside down in the water while waiting to get up but are almost effortless to ski on. The hardest part of sking now is getting my feet back in the bindings in the water. But nowadays I have to stop and take a couple of breaths every morning just getting my socks on and tying my shoes so I guess that is to be expected.

That is one beautiful ski in the picture and I would love to have one like it on my den wall.

Very cool! I like that setup on your wall. Your uncle certainly took pride in that ski, looks brand new.

I still have my Maherajah wood that I bought back in 1972. When this ski turned you better be committed cause it was going. A very aggressive ski.
