So here's the story -
I'm new to boating and recently I bought a tohatsu 9.8 outboard motor for basic use at my cottage (I previously had a trolling motor, but it wouldn't get up the river)
so anyways I come up for the weekend to try out my new motor. I assembled it and started it up just to see if it was working fine. It worked fine, I then turned it off and made myself some dinner. When I came back down after to actually go around in it, when I tried starting it, it wouldn't start. I would crank the string thing and it would sound like its almost about to start, but it wouldn't. I tried again the next day and still nothing. At this point I was just gonna bring it back to the dealer. I brought it back and it turns out the issue was the fuel I got - apparently it was bad fuel that I got in a gas station in the middle of nowhere. They then put some better fuel in and it worked fine.
So if you have an outboard motor that won't start fine, hopefully this might help you.

Fresh fuel is the party's soul. Try to consume most of it on your outing and always replenish tank's fuel leftovers with fresh fuel, engine will work much better.

Remember never start an outboard without water running thru it, , with muffs or in the water. Just saying in case you didn't know. If you knew that already, then your already ahead:cool:
