just a side note thought you would enjoy, i was on the riverwalk, near the Jacksonville landing monday morning about 10:15, there were about 50 porpoises playing in the river.
I took my boat to the landing ounce probably wasn't such a great idea it really srugles against the current and i have still bin looking for larger motor for my boat. My uncle the one who gave me the motor i have has another motor he wants to get rid of its a 1960's 20hp merc they look like nice motors and i have one more question my 14' starcraft is rated for 18 hp wihc i think thats a little over rated but iwas wondering would it be an o.k. idea to put that motor an my boat and what procautions should i take. Thanks Dan
Dan, you would have to rig it with remote controls, to the middle or front seat, to use it alone. with the tiller control you will have the same problem i had with this boat, with the 15hp, all it would do is stand up on the stearn, with just one person. i use the ezguide stick steering
I was thinking before hand that it would be a good idea to put in steering also where do i get steering like the one you showed me and would i be able to instal it my self. Oh and you were right the website i went to wasn't very accurate it says that my does 18mph with my 5.5 and i checked before my boat does about 12mph.
i found mine on ebay, you will need the system in the right cable length, and the converstion kit, if the engine does not have the tilt tube for the steering cable to go thru.
Thats a pretty nice setup.
I don't understand why a person would have such a hard time planing a boat with a 15 or for that mater a 10.
In the 50s we had a 14 ft Crestliner w a 10 Johnson. It used to plane fine with two 100 lb kids on the rear seat.
It planed quick with it trimmed in and still planed pretty good trimmed all the way out.Of course it porpoised really bad but at 13 thats what we liked.
My Grandfather had a 56 Lone Star with a 12 Sea Bee
It planed fine with me at 180 lbs.
