a perfect day

I took my 7 year old son and 4 year old daughter today fishing I went through 4 dozen worms and hundreds of sunfish and I tell you it was one of those days a parent will never forget. Perfect day kids fishing my son and daughter taking turns driving the boat (in my lap) laughing joking talking Ill remember this day for years to come the look on thier faces as the millions of sunfish grabed the worm teaching my daughter that worms cant hurt you letting them each have a can of coke ( when their mother wont allow it)the list is endless and I was wondering you all seem like good family men want to share some experiences your have had with the kids or grandkids taking them fishing for the first time

Sounds great Milo!

I'm hoping to get to some fishing with the kids too, but this Oregon rain just won't let up.

We've had something like 29+ straight days of some kind of precipitation.

I'm really getting tired of it now...

And it's ironic...Last year I couldn't take the boat to the lake very much cause of forest fires in the area, and now I can't take it cause I don't want to fill it with rain and wet uncomfortable children!

H.

Good deal Milo, Some of my fondest memories are of fishing with my kids. There was a couple of years there when I would not even take my rod along, I was to busy tending to the kids and I loved every minute of it. Now my 22 year old out fishes pop just about every time we get out together :D Go figure.

Re: a perfect day

miloman... went out with my 2yr girl and 4 1/2 boy (not first time) after crappies the other day and after handing the pole to my son on his second crappie he was upset because he didn't do it "all by myself" so he was dissapointed and playing with the crappies in the livewell when I caught another.

He goes over and gets a minnow and his pole and I just sat there nervously and quitly watching him as he baited his hook and cast it out. Needless to say I was pretty proud watching him bait his first hook by himself. I was worried about the hook but he was fairly cautious i suppose sooner or later he will get himself with one I only hope not to badly.

As for my daughter well she likes to walk around the boat and try diffrent spots so I let here have have a rod with no hook only a bobber with about 2 foot of line out and shes happy when shes not playing with bait.

Re: a perfect day

Speaking of a perfect day. I finally got the
monkey off my back and got the boat in the water
for the first time this season. The weather broke
and the sun finally came out.I am pleased to
report that the powerhead replacement on my 120
evinrude could not have gone better. It runs
great, idles well, starts good. Now I can get back
to some serious fishn. :)

I know what you are talking about. I live in North Carolina and grew up in Alabama. Last Fall I took my family to the Elk River in Alabama where I first caught a fish when I was about 4. I had the enjoyment of watching my son Tucker catch his first fish there. It brought back a lot of memories. I hope to make this a tradition.

Tucker's First Fish
