Okay. I am a sucker for punishment. I bought another little outboard on Ebay. It's a tiny Johnson 2hp seahorse. The serial is
2R79A E5029328. If I've done my homework,I think it's a '79. Please feel free to correct me.
Just got it tonight.the thing isn't frozen up, as the prop and flywheel turn freely. The one plug is shot and I'll replace this weekend.I can yank on the flywheel cord to start it, and the cord yanks out like nothing is connected to the other end? I get no movement from the flwheel.
Also, I cannot figure out how to get the cowling off of this thing. It has an integrated gas tank.
There is one big screw on the top of the cowling that has rusted into nothing. No clue how to remove that other than drilling it out.
It's a perfect little motor for my canoe, if I can get it running.

You've got the right year, there, for your eggbeater. Odds are your problem with the rope starter is a bent spring on the recoil unit. Once you get the recoil starter off, you can rebend it.

If you have to drill out that screw, go ahead, but make sure you use a small enough drill not to damage the threads in the hole.

Eggbeater. I sorta like that.
The cowling on that thing actually comes off via 4 bolts on the underside. That little screw on top actually holds the recoil starter flush with the inside of the cowling.Strange but true.I didn't need to remove it after all.I took the cover off the thing and had a good look at it.Then all I did was put it back on.Suddenly the pull start works like a charm now.I have no clue what I did, but that aspect of it seems to be fixed.I've got to get a new plug for it.Any idea which Champion plug to buy,and the gap setting?
The rest I'll deal with later.Gotta eliminate the simple stuff first.

I put in a new plug and changed the lower unit oil.It runs like a scalded Chihuahua!! BUT- Water pump pumps nothing at all.Time for an impeller.I'm just glad all of the major stuff is OK.
