I have been looking for a little 6hp kicker motor for my 18 foot bayliner clasic. One of the motors I am looking at is the new Nissan 6hp with a 20 inch shaft. I was wondering how Nissan quality was compared to other brands since the motor is 500 bucks less than anything else in comparable size.
Also are these motors rated for salt water and can you change the props. to something more efficient for trolling at slow speeds?

Re: A little nissan info please

Tohatsu/Nissan/Mercury are all the same engine. They run anywhere from the same price up to $200.00 more for a different brand in the same size range. Suzuki is the same price in our market. Individual dealers simply price based on market conditions. Since Tohatsu/Nissan can be shipped and other brands cannot, there is often more competition to keep the price down in some areas. There is no difference in quaility from one brand to another, although there are warranty differences. All brands of engines, except that Briggs thing, are designed for saltwater and all brands of engines have different proppelers available to better perform a specific task.

The ones that Tohatsu builds for Mercury have a shift function built into the throttle grip. The Tohatsu/Nissan's come with one that is on the front of the engine. You got a great deal at $1800.00. Where did you get it from?

Re: A little nissan info please

You had me worried for a minute at that $1800.00 price because that is less than what we sell them for. But our regular price is less than cabela's sale price of $1844.99. We price shop all of our competitors on a regular basis so that we can advertise that we are the lowest in the U.S. When soneone pops up with a " I bought it for $xxxx" and that price is lower than ours, then we have to go through every other competitor's price schedule to see where we need to be. You did well on that price though, because they are only a couple of dollars higher than us.

I didnt find your site untill now you offer a lot more choices on your site

I see you have a lot of props for sale what prop comes with the motor? and what prop would probbaly work the best for a 14 ft aluminum boat

I think I am going to miss the power of my old 18 hp evinrude. oh well time to save up and buy another to swap out when I go to unlimited hp lakes

They are shipped with a 9 pitch which will work on your boat. If you have trouble getting up on plane(it will be a little slow on your boat) you will want to drop down in pitch at least one prop pitch size.
