Boat is boston whaler
engine is yamaha 1983 6H1 1983- 90A/AEO/AETO

I have a few questions for the experts, please pardon my lack of knowledge as i try to give you my questions as best as possible........

1. i have a 90 hp Yamaha engine that uses 2 fuel containers (Red plastic) each of these containers has a connector for attaching the fuel line and a valve for air release.. my question is when running the engine it seems to bend the plastic on the fuel containers as the gas goes out over a period of time. If i open the air valve the containers are fine but i am not sure i am getting enough fuel to the engine. do i or do i not open the air valve when running...

2. i have the 703 Remote Control Throttle with the fast idle lever, under this lever is a silver toggle switch and under that is the kill switch with cable. my question is about the silver switch sbove the kill switch.. what is this switch? do i need to hold in up postion to start engine.. what function does it have??

Absolutely open the air valve. You are starving the engine of fuel if you do not. The switch I don't know about. Maybe choke or tilt/trim??

Liam

OPEN. Fuel, spark, air is what makes an engine run.

Also, you better just leave them open, because if it gets extremly hot outside and they are baking in the sun they could explode.

Hey Tyler, The switch you're referring to is the choke. As long as you hold the switch up, the choke is activated. If it's working properly you'll hear a click at the motor when you use it.
Backlash

one more thing..it is not air release for the vent, it is so air can replace the void left in the tank when you burn the fuel out, otherwise you get a vacuum. Kind of like the ol' egg on top of a bottle experiment we all did in 4th grade. The match uses all the air up in the bottle, creates a vacuum and pulls the hard boiled egg down in the bottle. Remember that one? :)

Tyler, as the rest said, You must open the air vent on the gas tank.

On my Yamaha, When cold it starts best with No high idle and holding the choke on, as soon as the engine starts, i let go of the choke. if it starts to stall, i toggle the switch a few times and to get the RPM of the engine up again. It seems if I use the High idle lever, it's harder to start.
