Hey everybody just have a few questions... (2003 Baja Outlaw 20 5.0mpi merc alpha 1 gen 2

Didnt do a search because im at work and impatient haha

1.) What can I spray on the outside of my engine and other components in the engine bay to keep from rusting or corroding?

2.) What exactly are bellows?? and can I keep my outdrive strapped in the up position or will it wear out the bellows?

3.) How can I tell when I need to change the sacrificial anodes? They are pitting but how long can they go for and what material should i replace with if i need to??

1. DO NOT use the corrosion guard that Mercruiser puts out. It makes everything sticky forever, and from what I can tell, promotes corrosion. We tried using it at a place I worked in Alaska. What a mess for 2 years. Then changed to the Volvo corrosion guard. Spays on all wet and runny, dries to a nice waxy feel and no corrosion. Love the stuff. I think it the same thing as the BioShield T9 or something like that, only a blue color. They both work the same and are very good products, especially around salt water.

2. They are the corrigated tubes you see when you raise the drive up and look up under the drive. They keep water out of the boat, on the ujoint and shift cable bellows, and the exhaust bellows directs the exhaust out the prop (for the most part)

3. When they are 50% Gone, replace them. Depending on type water you are in, they will be Aluminum or Magnesium. Do not use the after market zinc anodes.

Head up to the adults only thread (second thread in the forum) and download the manuals for your engine and drive. It's free. And look around. Lots of information there.

Thanks for the fast reply. Ill check out the adults only thread.

So the volvo anti corrosion I can spray right on the engine anytime or does it need to be when I winterize it so it can sit and wont get hot when the engine is running?

Thanks again

Anytime. If your engine gets a lot of salt water on it, hose it off after use, then after it dries spray on the corrosion guard. Won't hurt a thing.
That includes the transom shield, steering, wiring, motormounts, starter, alternator, pulleys. etc. The belts don't seem to have any problems with it. But the pulleys don't rust.
