A couple of timing questions.

I have been reading up on Joe Reeves timing method all evening and the more I study the more confused I get. I just want to be sure I am doing things right before I begin.

I have a 98 115 spl crossflow v4. When I have the throttle at idle there is no play in the timer base. However when I advance the throttle to full throttle I can move the timer base quite a bit. I don't know if this is normal? Also in a related question, Mr Reeves mentions the following line

(set that timer base under the flywheel tight against the rubber stop on the end of the full spark timer advance stop screw (wire it against that stop if necessary).)

I am not sure if my motor has a full spark timer advance stop screw? I can't find any such animal anyway. If this is the case do I just put the throttle at full throttle?

Re: A couple of timing questions.

Yours is a little different Mike. He is describing an older, common setup of the mechanism under the flywheel, with a WOT timing stop screw. Yours is cammed into the control levers.
The concepts will be the same tho. Basically, at WOT, the timer base should have rotated under the flywheel to stop at some fixed point, unable to move FURTHER. The WOT timing adjustment will allow you to set that position precisely, so that you have with JR's method (at cranking speed), 4 degrees less that the max called for.

We have had many a heated discussion about this on this forum. I am a fan of setting it on the water, at 5K, so you know for sure. The safety Nazis disagree with me. LOL.

Why don't you bring the boat over some day? We could go thru the engine.
