A couple of questions - Thermostat and Fogging Questions

Two questions as I'm in the process of winterizing my boat.

Background info:
I've got the service manuals and following the winterizing procedure pretty well. As I removed the hoses to fill them with 50/50 antifreeze, part of the instructions were to remove the thermostat housing (which I did). Having done that I noticed that my thermostat is fairly corroded and I want to replace it.

Question #1:
Can I goto autozone/advance auto and buy a thermostat for an 88 Chevy 454 7.4L or do I need something special? Will it come with the required gaskets? What type of gasket sealant do I need? (I'm not sure sealant is the right term, but the 'glue' for the gaskets)

Question #2:
Used Sta-Bil fogging oil in the engine but the engine never would choke and die so I just turned it off. I was getting some pretty good smoke out of the exhaust while I fogged it, so I assume I got enough fogger in there?

Thanks!

I doubt if you could get the correct temp t stat at autozone....
What you use on the gasket will be determined by the gasket itself, some need nothing.....
On paper ones I use permatex aviation grade sealant.....
Your fogging sounds good.....:)
