What's your favorite version of the movie?

Mine is the 1938 version with Reginald Owen. I remember watching it with my brother in the dark when I was quite young (it was OLD then!) and it scared the be-jeebers out of me. Fond memories, it's been my favorite since.

I know it has been adapted to death, but was surprised to see just how many different versions there are: IMDb: Various "A Christmas Carol" Film Adaptations (Also Includes Films with Non-Traditional Stories) - a list by kuzzn

The poll only has a few of the more popular ones.....imdb.com lists 171 movie & TV-episode versions!

What's your favorite?

Y'know … none of the above. I like the George C. Scott one, but there was one with Albert Finney from 1970 that I rather liked. It was a musical, so some will find it too much.

The Muppet one is very fun (1992).

Haven't seen the Kelsey Grammer version.

Easy one, Alistair Sim in the 50's version. Charles Dickens (English) story...best interpreted by....the English (British), no surprise.
Alistair Sim is great in that role although I'm not sure on the re-coloured version vs. the original black and white version.

Re: "A Christmas Carol" movie versions - Just for fun

I've seen a lot of the ones on the imdb list, they run the gamut from excellent to horrible of course. When it comes to colorization, I've never seen a colorized movie that I liked better than the original black & white.

I can't argue against the fact that a lot of the versions are more faithful to the original novel than my favorite.

The thing that got me thinking about this is that when the subject would come up with friends or family, almost everbody had a different favorite.
