I have used a chock before when I had to load/unload my boat by myself and I had a truck with manual transmission. The problem I always had was when the truck had rolled back a little against the chock it was impossible to remove it without pulling the truck up a little, and then I had to get out after pulling the truck up and pick the chock up while the truck is setting there with just the park brake holding. After some redneck engineering, I came up with an idea of tying the rope from the chock to the bed pocket and just dragging the chock along side the truck until I was on flat ground. Before this great idea I had to asked strangers to help pull the chock out from the wheel after you pull up a little and throwing it in the bed of the truck, you will get some very weird looks when you ask someone you don’t know to--pull your chock.

Good idea. I'm in a similar situation; solo launching with a manual trans. I made a 60lb wheel chock out of concrete with rebar handles on both sides, one face curved to match the tire. It gets chained to a small eye hook on the frame behind the rear wheels. Like you I just hook it up and pull it up the ramp. Get some strange looks but pretty safe way to launch. Glad I'm not the only one doing it!

What will be neat when the rebar starts coming trough the concrete and making sparks as you pull it, especially at night.

Should have used magnesium - what was I thinking?<br />Actually, the rebar goes all way through the chock, I build to last!

rascalsdad <br />I'm with you, I like to over engineer most stuff I build. I guess that's just my nature.<br />"GET THE TORCHES!!"

Have also seen a wheel chock tied to each end of an 8 or 10 foot piece of rope and thrown over the hitch.

You know I think im the only person I know who uses a chock . I get funny looks when I break out my wood chock but I think its a matter of safety

rascalsdad -"60lb wheel chock"<br /> sounds a bit heavy.

Well C'mon - It's concrete, they don't make a<br />"lite" version. I tend to over build a little, hence a tandem axle trailer for my 1200 lb boat.

Actually they do. They use a light weight filler in it, like styrofoam, which reduces the density.
