Don't know about others but I'm sick of being tracked by Google (and Bing to a lessor extent) and all the spam it creates. Also not happy how both are now censoring search's based on who knows what or putting paying advertisers at the front of the search results.

Dug into it a bit a found a search engine that does none of it. They simply serve up uncensored results without giving preference to advertisers AND I get just as good results as I do from the other two. https://ixquick.com/ Definitely worth a try if you feel the same way.

Re: A better search engine...

Bubba, I have noticed that if I am searching for some part or whatever one day, that the very next day, I am inundated with advertisements/pop ups for those exact same parts or whatever I was searching on the previous day. Some say technology, others say tracking. I guess it all depends on your point of view... But the point being, nobody is over-looked these days on any internet usage and should know you are never along on any internet site!

It is getting scary, a couple days ago I was searching for parachute cord and literally five minutes later when I went to an archery forum their advertising bar across the top was full of nothing but parachute cord. That's impressive. Ebay is slower, when I open it the main page is nothing but boat parts and it's been so cold I haven't looked at those in months. I just read an article about the future of Amazon where they will be sending items in anticipation of us buying them based upon our search history. Target can predict with 90% + accuracy when a shopper is actually pregnant (not just trying to get pregnant) within the first 4 weeks of onset of that pregnancy.

Tried a few searches and my initial thoughts is not bad. Will try many more to see how it goes.

Most tracking methods come from doubleclick. Ever go to a site and try to go back and find there are a hundred or more things you have to go back to reach where you started, this is doubleclick. Easy way to stop this is:
IE select Tools
select Internet Options
select Security
select Restricted
select Sites
delete what is in the current bar and add:
*.doubleclick.net
*.doubleclick.com

Save and exit

I'm still trying to figure whether you simply don't understand =>

....or whether you just think it applies only to others.

Given that you claim to be in the IT business, this is a CoI big enough to drive a truck through.

To be honest, I really don't care if I am tracked by Google for advertising. Helps me find stuff I am interested in. I like Google. Not changing. They are the best.

And Bubba, why are you rehashing this same thing again? How many times are you going to bring this up.

Must be snowing again in the flyover states. How are the propane prices doing?
We need a new forum category. Instead of Dockside Chat, it could be Bubba Chat.

Two very different things but if you don't see it, that's ok

Don't know about others but I'm sick of being tracked by Google

Your other thread was Google and Privacy. How are they different? February must be the I hate Google month or its just cold outside. :)

And I thought you had this licked with your proxy server that you were touting! What happened with that?
